FUN FUN FUN FEST 7 Part 2

Yet another year comes to pass that leaves us with the taste of greatness in our mouths. Some some say this was the best FFF so far. The Sword, Between Then Buried and Me, Municipal Waste graced us with their excellence again,The Dwarves, The Spits, The Briefs,No Means No, OFF! , Riverboat Gamblers, TurboNegro,Brutal Truth,Mike Patton . The list goes on and on. Many tough decisions were made this year but all were well rewarded. Cant wait for next year. See yall in the dust cloud!

FUN FUN FUN FEST 7

Fun Fun Fun Fest once again brought us back to see music we thought we may never see again and bands thats never cease to fail. X played almost two sets long making up for Danzig’s bullshit last year, and Val Kilmer cut off 80 percent of his hair with a large knife…

Austin Corn Lovers Kick-Off

The White Horse hosted the first night of ACL-no, not Austin City Limits, but Austins Corn Lovers Fiesta. The White Horse was the perfect place to fill with the eclectic crowd that shuffled through the door on Thursday. The place was so packed it took a second of looking around to feel out the crowd, the scene. But that was just it- there was no specific scene that prominently inhabited the white horse. Punks, cowboys, hipsters, old school musicians, sharply dressed men and dolled up gals were all out in full force to come together and get rowdy. Not a scene at all, but a vibe for sure. Every ones’ freak flag was up and dancing shoes on.

The Hickoids were the perfect band to bring the crowd together. We all time warped to a punk rock honky-tonk from the 1970’s. The prominence of the organ and the lap steel guitar along with the slightly odd sex appeal of the lead singer and the guitar players’ hippy get-up worked wonders for all the listeners. They turned Benny and the Jets into a “spaced out” sped up punk number. After the culmination of the energy that came from the Hickoids, we all needed a breather and a beer before the ruckus that was sure to ensue when Cunto took the stage.

Cunto proved to me that originality still exists- and not only that but they put on a show you could only see in Austin. Being from San Francisco, so many bands are a dime a dozen- but only in Austin can you rock our in a circle pit or have a straight ho-down to the same bangin’ sounds coming from the stage.

-Susie Henderson

The insanity coming from the shirtless mandolin front man along with the almost zydeco sounding accordion was a perfect top layer to the steadfast and driving rhythm section that fed the crowd endless energy which in turn gave it right back to them with revelry.

By the time the hair-pullin’, beer spillin’. corn flying fiesta was ending, the whole crowd, diversity aside, were all drenched in sweat from the frenzy of the music that took place.

FUN FUN FUN FEST 7

Fun Fun Fun Fest is absolutely our favorite music fest and we will be there doing our best to give you guys some good shots and video of  our favorite acts. I have covered the fest before but with flakey press connections that never posted my work, or anything for that matter. This year we will do it how it is supposed to be done, DIY press done by people who care. Here are a couple of old photos from waterloo park, more to come.
